Cyber Harassment PDF Print E-mail
Another case of Cyber Harassment has been reported, this time at Gurgaon. The accused hacked the password of victim's Yahoo ID and was sending unscrupulous messages to all her contacts, included in her address book. One of which stated "I am infected with AIDS and am counting last days of my life". The complaint also includes allegation of some obscene morphed photos of her boss.

The victim was being harassed for the last two months, so finally decided to lodge an FIR. Before that she even tried speaking to accused's father but in reply she got threats only. The police is busy investigating the matter and is still to trap the culprit. Basically, in such cases, sec 66 (hacking), sec 67 (obscene photos) of I.T. Act, coupled with IPC (Indian Penal Code) provisions come into play.

These kind of cases though rarely reported but are not too common. To take an example, on the first day of site launch, we received an email from a person asking for help in a case where his fiancee was receiving some obscene morphed photos of her in violation of Section 67 of I.T. Act, 2000. But the complainant was not keen in approaching the Police at the first instance but wanted to detect the identity of the sender first based on technical evidence. Though in such cases, the best solution is to lodge an FIR u/s 67 of I.T.Act.
