E-Governance is in full swing... with Government
announcing 'Judiciary
IT enabling project'. Yesterday, Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated 5-year
Rs 854 crore IT enabling project for Judiciary, with its aim to make
"the justice delivery system affordable, accessble, cost effective,
transparent and accountable." With the help of Technology, the
overall objective is to reduce the burden on the courts and also to
provide various resources to the common public online.
Now-a-days, it is not uncommon to find a Desktop
computer in front of a Judicial Magistarte in every court-room, whether it
is a Supreme court, High Court or even a District Court. Also cause
lists are available on websites of various courts but still Government
feels the IT benefits havn't been fully exploited for the Indian
Judiciary so far, there is scope for lot more... which will help in
bringing the legal costs down for a common man.
Last month in another news, it was announced that some of the
Delhi's Police Station system will be computerized and Public will be
able to lodge FIRs online. That is surely a welcome step, now you don't
need to plead before a Police official to register your FIR.
