Spam King PDF Print E-mail
FBI has put a stop to the 60-year old SPAM King, Alan M. Ralsky by seizing all the computer equipments from his Michigan Mansion in September. Mr Ralsky was named as "poster boy for spam" by Detroit News in 2002 but Mr Ralsky tells 'I am not a spammer but just a Commercial Emailer' and a law abiding person.
Last year, US introduced CAN-SPAM Act to deal with SPAMMING, it provides for certain precautions to be taken by Bulk Mailers like identifying Commercial emails as such and to deter from using misleading IDs, subject lines, etc. Penalties include up to 20 years imprisonment and an $ 11,000 fine per offence.

Unfortunately, Indian Cyber Laws doesn't contain any provision against Spamming though it is a big menace. Databases including emails are sold openly, which has already been 'UNCOVERED' by CNBC but still India doesn't seem to be serious enough to provide specific provisions against Spamming under IT Act. Though protection can be sought under 'Law of Torts' as nuisance, as was done last year by VSNL.
