Email Threat @ Parliament PDF Print E-mail
Today both the houses of Parliament were evacuated after a threatening Email was received by US Consulate in Chennai around 11:30 AM which read "Today there shall be a bomb blast in Parliament and US consulates in India at 11:46 A.M. Stop it if you could. Cut relations with the USA. Long live OSAMABINLADEN ASADHULLAH ALKALIFS," The messgae was immediately passed on to the security agencies in the Capital around noon, and both the Houses were adjourned & immediately evacuated.

Search continued for around three hours but no explosives were found and the Email threat was declared as Hoax. And immediately IP address of the email was tracked down to some Cyber Cafe in Tamil Nadu and the owner of the Cafe has been taken into Police custody for interrogation, though he is unable to recall about the identity of all the visitors at the Cafe today.

Now this again points to the usefulness and mandatory implementation required of the Cyber Cafe regulations all over India, which have till now have been implemented in few states only, Karnataka is one of them where the said regulations were implemented in 2004 end but were protested, mainly by Cyber Cafe Owners. As the said regulations require, inter alia, Cyber Cafe owners to keep records of various visitors including photocopy of their ID cards and in the absence of any photo ID to click a photo of a visitor through Web-Camera, which Cyber Cafe owners think is a futile exercise.
