Surajit Pal, an MSc in Computer Science from
Sikkim’s Manipal University and presently working with US-based
software company, Valley Info System, was arrested this week for
sending abusive and obscene e-mails to NGO's female employees as a
revenge for the mis-treatment he received when he consulted the NGO
over the telephone over and again for the same matter.
Though Telegraph reported about the lack of infrastrucure of Calcutta's
Cyber Crime Cell, allegeing it exists on paper only. But the said
arrest was commendable. As the Police tracked the accused technically
only.
Police
has siezed the Computer of the accused from where one of the email was
sent. Other emails were sent from a Cyber Cafe. The accused had created
anonymous email IDs, @ sify.com and yahoo.com, which were tracked
through IP Tracking. Surajit has admitted to the offence and has been
charged under Sec 67 of Information technology Act, 2000, which will
result in 5 years imprisonment. And it's an non-bailable offence. |
